Ever since I started looking at wheels, I have noticed how hideous a lot of OEM designs are(particularly on my car). There are always some rays of sunlight though, that can actually design a nice looking wheel! My vote goes to BMW, their mesh wheels look beautiful.

AMG has great looking wheels

HRE.
They win the forged game for me.

From an overall perspective, I agree with you assessment. BMW has more good looking wheels. I'd also say Audi has a good batch as well.

Are they a car company? I didn't think so. Otherwise Rays has them beat by miles!!

BMW has made the most consistently good looking wheels. However Koenigsegg's carbon wheels are pure distilled sex.

I liked the 6.0l Diablo wheels. They still have the classic 5 hole design but with modern flare and concavity at the rear.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 13:45 |

I really like the 3rd one. It reminds me of OZs. I do think they made some wheels for Mercedes though.

I'm a fan of the new mustang wheels, they actually look a lot like the bmw ones you posted.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 13:46 |

I bet they would look great if they didn't expose the carbon fiber. As of now, they are to gaudy!

Definitely agree about BMW for OEM rim styles!
I use the style 220M for my summers - they're forged and actually made by Fuchs
And for my winters I used the style 219M, which are made by BBS!
I think the real drooling started for me with the style 65 on the E39 M5...I've always been absolutely crazy about this wheel:

Sensible Swedes make badass wheels.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 13:59 |

Or if they went with matte finish instead of gloss. There's a BRZ at a tuning shop on the way to my GF's with a matte CF hood looks way better than the gloss stuff.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:00 |

Is Alpina a car company? I've always liked the look of their wheels, especially on an E21, but they are a PITA to clean.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:00 |

I love the first one. The opening is so tiny! Also, don't the older ones have a ridiculous bolt pattern?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:00 |

I will thoroughly and completely disagree.
It would be one thing if it was fake or just random parts. The whole deal with the car is that it's made of as much carbon fiber as is possible.
Carryon

Saab 9-3 Turbo X wheels are pretty great.

![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:01 |

Well, it isn't about real or fake. Any sort of exposed body panels just look gross. Carbon fiber accents look nice if they are done in tiny amounts, but a whole car. I am going to get this painted. Also what is up with the gold?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:02 |

Saab 9-3 Turbo X, those split three spokes yo.

What is wrong with you? Those are ugly!!!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:03 |

True story. Although, if part of the car is gloss and the hood is matte, it might look a bit strange.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:04 |

I don't know what's going on with the gold. it was just the first good pic I found on google images.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:04 |

I don't know if this is a good question since a lot of the "best" wheels are designed or made by a wheel company. BBS is a big one having made wheels for Audi/VW/Porsche
Subaru
Mercedes
Mazda
BMW
And others. So it isn't quite fair to ask about which manufacturer does it best unless you force people to exclude these styles of wheels.....ooooooorrrr you let us name these wheel makers as one of the best if you just look at their OEM work.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:05 |
|
Well, how about this. Best looking OEM wheel. I know Fuch makes a lot of wheels for BMW, and OZ did some for the Benz. Rays and Enkei do it for a lot of Japanese cars. Hell even Rota makes some for other manufacturers.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:05 |
|
The second one from the top is just a rebranded BBS, isn't it?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:06 |
|
Definitely not Ford...I know they have had some great ones but the majority are meh looking to me...
The Focus ST wheels are great but what were they thinking on these Fiesta ST wheels?! What is special about these?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:07 |

I read it as Which company.
ESL, its a bitch
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:08 |

Who were the designers in the 90s? Most American cars from then looked terrible. The Europeans weren't better off either.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:08 |
|
Very tiny indeed. Also, surprisingly easy to clean. And yeah, 4x108 with a stupid offset. I've got the first one's on my car, and have actually struggled to find wheels for snows.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:09 |
|
I agree and yes they were with the times but we can all agree they wheels are still terrible.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:11 |
|
They came on the V8 Quattro and a similar (if not the same) set was available on the 90, but they definitely appear to be a BBS wheel...The first wheel in my original post is technically a Speedline wheel, as well.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:12 |
|
I would suggest a hub conversion, but you have to change the brake rotors out if you do that. It will open the wheel options up. Like a lot! 5x114.3 has the most amount of selection.

I've always loved Maserati's "Neptune" wheels.

OZ doesn't make cars ;) although, I would have a set of their wheels if they just made them in 17x9!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:15 |

They look much better in person!

I have considered it. I really like the way the B5 S4's snowflakes look on the coupes, but I like the stock wheels too much to commit to it. Also, I don't have any money.

BMW does a good job, and Porsche does the worst. If I had $90k to spend on a car I would expect better than this!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:39 |

Ew, although I do think their newer wheels do look much nicer!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:40 |

Didn't know they were Fuchs - nice! I've got the same for winter/summer.
Ever seen the 65 on an E90?
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:41 |

Here's the car. I believe its one of Nameless's dev cars.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:42 |

The style used by the BMW wheel in the initial photo has been my favorite for several years. I believe I first saw it on a racing car, possibly a sports prototype. It has appeared on several aftermarket as well as production car wheels. The details vary of course, but the webbing and number of spokes seem to remain consistent.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 14:57 |

I love them, some people like the five hole Diablo wheels and I can't stand them. Some like fat spoke amg wheels, I think they look like death.
![]() 02/05/2014 at 15:02 |
|
I hate the Diablo wheels and the AMG wheels!!
![]() 02/05/2014 at 15:13 |
|
I have not. Here's a picture of some style 65 reps on an E92. It doesn't look terrible, but I think they're probably best left to the E39. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpos…
![]() 02/05/2014 at 15:15 |

Very few car companies actually make their wheels. Even BMW doesn't make wheels. They contract to BBS and the like. The only wheels that are usually made in house are boutique shops like Koenigsegg or Pagani or prototype development for one offs for shows. Even boutiques will out source mass production once a design is done for production cars.

Good! I will say that BMW does have pretty great wheels, the Saab 3 spokes have grown on me though: 9000 aero, 900 spg and turbo, and the Turbo X wheels.

Depends on how OEM you want them to be I guess...Rays handles all the NISMO branded wheels for Nissan, but the TE37-esque wheels on the Z-Tune are still the business. I personally wished that the new GT-Rs would have kept the 5 spokes going...

Looks like the majority of wheels posted so far are from German manufacturers. And why not? They look great. I have to admit that BMW makes some great looking designs.
From a totally unique standpoint, I vote the "Blades of Death" Hufeisen wheels on the VW GTI. (Hufeisen means horseshoe! get it?)
